7th & 8th Grade Band

Roll
Materials Check (for grade)

  • Pencil
  • Book
  • Instrument (including mouthpiece, reeds, etc.)
  • Music

Warm-up, Concert Bb and Eb Scales

  • Play in whole notes, unison
  • Play in whole notes, canon
  • Play using notated rhythm pattern

New Scale, Concert F

  • Ensure that clarinet are playing middle and low octaves
  • Saxes playing low and middle octaves
  • Flutes playing low and middle octaves
  • Have ensemble repeat scale in half notes in order for the above instruments to play both octaves.

Arizona Thunder

  • Play from beginning in fast 4/4—transition into cut time (students will be marking time in their chair)
  • Rehearse individual sections
  • Work on any needed sections

Sight-reading
If time, students will read a Grade 1.5 musical selection

7th and 8th Grade Choir

Vocal Warm-ups (begin in the key of G)

Rehearse the following music:
-Child of This World
-Joy to the World
-Angels Among Us

Sightread “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit” if time permits

General Music

Roll
Materials check (for grade)
-Pencil
-Folder with paper

Music Defense—students will write at least 6 sentences for the following prompt:
“I listen to the _____________________ style of music because…..”

–Students must use the words discussed in previous classes to defend their musical choices.  This paper will be turned in during class.

Music Elements Lesson

-Definitions
-Applications
-Music Excerpts

A quiz will be given at the next class meeting.  Students will be required to write the definitions discussed in this weeks class period.  A study guide will be added to this page no later than Friday, Sept. 1, 2006
